After Hawaii-born Australian Nicole Kidman split with Tom Cruise in 2001, she had a series of short romances with Robbie Williams, Adrien Brody and Lenny Kravitz, before meeting country singer Keith Urban in January 2005 at G'Day LA, an awards dinner held by the Australian government honouring famous Australians.

Although Nicole was spotted wearing an engagement ring in November, 2005, Keith and Nicole did not announce their engagement until May 13, 2006. During that time, she appeared to be hiding any sign of engagement rings as she posed for photographs. To me, this is a bit strange. If she didn’t want people to think she is engaged then why wear something reminiscent of massive diamond engagement rings on her wedding finger?

Wedding Ring

Nicole had just turned 39 years old and Keith (a Kiwi, raised on a 12-acre farm in Queensland, Australia) 38 years old when the pair married in June 2006. They had an all-candlelight ceremony at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Sydney Harbour. In a statement regarding their wedding location: "We are very happy to be back in Australia. We have come home to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends."

Guests at the wedding reported that Kidman and Urban were obviously deep in love and looked at each other like there was no-one else around them. The couple's openness was unusual for the normally fiercely private stars, but the couple took the spotlight in their stride, even sending cold beer to the paparazzi camped outside Kidman's home. On the case of 24 bottles of Victoria Bitter beer was a note: "Enjoy! Nicole & Keith."

After speculation by the press, it was confirmed in 2008 that Kidman was pregnant, and Sunday Rose Kidman Urban was born on 7 July 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee. Keith purchased her a surprise $73,000 Cartier Trinity ring. The three intertwined rings set with multi-colored pavé diamonds are meant to represent the three stages of a relationship: yellow gold for friendship, rose gold for love and white gold for fidelity.

I wonder if she wears her Trinity ring in place of her wedding and engagement rings, or on a different finger? Also, maybe it's a slightly odd choice given that Nicole's ex-husband's new wife (Katie Holmes) has the same ring - but I'm sure she's not complaining. It really is a lovely piece of jewellery.
